Colour Cabinet

Overview

The Colour Cabinet Tall is a vertical storage unit designed for HAY by the Belgian designers Muller Van Severen. HAY says it balances a clean, minimalist design with vibrant colour, and it is offered in mono-colour and multi-colour options.

Construction

The body is organically dyed Valchromat®, a robust MDF material that HAY states is FSC™-certified, combined with sliding glass doors and a durable steel supporting frame. HAY's sheet lists UV lacquered Valchromat panels with water-based lacquer on the edges, a powder coated steel tube frame, and tempered reeded clear glass for the doors.

The designers

Muller Van Severen is the Belgian studio of Fien Muller and Hannes Van Severen, formed in 2011. HAY places the pair's work somewhere between design and art.

Colour and material

HAY says the designers focus on materials to explore contrasts and similarities in the materials and colours they use, and that the colours for the Colour Cabinet are carefully selected to penetrate the very core of the object.
