Cleo Coffee Table

Overview

Cleo is a set of small tables by Vincent Van Duysen, with a 2022 datasheet. Molteni&C's page calls them small domestic sculptures inspired by the geometric elegance of an oval, and a complement to the modular Cleo sofa system. The datasheet draws five codes, from 60 by 60 cm to 120 by 120 cm.

Construction

The top is thicker at its centre, which holds the supporting legs, and tapers toward the free sides to almost the width of a blade. The legs are solid wood in eucalyptus, black oak or sunrise oak, curved to follow the profile of the top, and a painted metal structure connects them. The top is a medium density fibreboard panel, either painted in the Galaxy metallic finish or upholstered in Eco Skin.

Small sculptures beside the sofa

The tables are small domestic sculptures that take inspiration from the geometric elegance of an oval, made to complement the modular Cleo sofa system. It says they can sit alongside a sofa, stand alone as an accent or be arranged in multiples, giving both surface space and a refined presence.

A top that thins to a blade

The top has a nuanced thickness at its centre that tapers delicately toward the edges, giving a blade-like profile. The top is thicker in the middle to take the solid wood legs, which are curved to match its profile.
