Description
Overview
Button Tables are multipurpose small tables designed by Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby in 2014. Their lacquered cylindrical bases taper in slightly at the bottom, which smooths out the geometry. Two oval variants are accompanied by a third with a round shape.
Construction
Every table has a marble top with a matt polyester finish and a raised edge that resembles a tray. The technical information lists a polyethylene tubular frame, a steel brace and a base-frame in laminate MDF wood fibre panel.
Specifications
39 named finishes are offered: glossy lacquered, satin lacquered and two marbles.
Story
Hard marble, soft form
The project sets the hardness of marble against a soft design and minimal details. The result is a formal exercise: combining different materials creates imperceptible movements of form. The lacquered bases are slightly rounded at the bottom to soften their geometry.
From Tobi-Ishi to the small tables
Barber & Osgerby gave Button Tables the same care and attention as Tobi-Ishi. Softness and stiffness, contrasting materials and minimal details are the recurrent themes of the London duo.
