Eastern forms, Eames technique
Vitra calls the Butterfly Stool an iconic classic by the Japanese designer Sori Yanagi, in which Eastern forms meet the plywood moulding technique of Charles and Ray Eames.

A butterfly's wings
According to the page, the twin seat shells curve gently and recall a butterfly's wings, poised for flight. Vitra makes the stool in maple or in palisander wood.
