Description

Overview

The BM0121 Dining Table was designed by Børge Mogensen in 1952 as a solution for small living environments, seating 4-6 people. The page calls it the first extendable circular table by Mogensen in the Carl Hansen & Søn collection.

Construction

  • Top: solid oak, 19 mm thick, with bent steel profiles underneath for stability
  • Legs and apron: slightly tapered legs and an upwardly curving apron that create extra leg room
  • Insert leaf: available in oak or MDF; with one the table seats up to six

Story

A democratic series

It was shown in Copenhagen in 1952, at the Art and Crafts Spring Exhibition, within a series of democratic furniture meant for small homes. The page calls Mogensen's approach in many ways ahead of its time, one that would set a precedent for Scandinavian minimalism for decades.

Recreated by hand

No original drawings exist. Carl Hansen & Søn recreated the table by measuring an older original model by hand.
