Beetle Sofa

Overview

The Beetle Sofa is a two-seater in GUBI's Beetle collection. The specification table names GamFratesi as the designer and 2013 as the design year, and the sofa sits under Seating, Sofas & Beds. GUBI describes it as elongated, with a rounded, protective outer shell and a soft inside.

Construction

The shell is covered in fabric and rests on a conic base with standard glides. Item 10120212 has a Black Matt base and Dora Boucle by Enzo Degli Angiuoni (0001) on the seat and back.

Specifications

Item 10120212 measures 140 cm wide, 80 cm deep and 81 cm high overall (55.1 x 31.5 x 31.9 in). Its listed weight is 110.2 lb.

Taking the lounge chair further

GUBI says the sofa takes its inspiration from the Beetle Lounge Chair. The two-seater plays with the contrast between an enveloping outer shell and a soft, inviting interior that encourages sitting down; the page adds that this is just like a beetle.

Legs and anatomy

The page adds that the characteristic look is enhanced by delicate, slightly conical legs, which give the sofa a light expression. GamFratesi are said to have studied the anatomy, aesthetics and movement of a beetle, and the design reinterprets the elements of the insect's sections.
