Description
Overview
The Aqua Table is a display or dining table designed by Zaha Hadid in 2005 for Established & Sons. The maker's text calls it an impressive centrepiece whose glossy surfaces inspire curiosity, with irregular fin-like legs expressed as indents in the gently undulating, fluid tabletop.
Construction
The table is made of glass reinforced polyester. For the high-gloss version, eight coats of high-gloss automotive paint are applied and polished by hand. The technical sheet lists satin-matt and high-gloss surfaces, each in black (RAL 9005) or white (RAL 9003); bespoke colour finishes are quoted on request.
Specifications
- Dimensions: L 3050 × D 1350 × H 760 mm
- Weight: 100 kg
- Material: glass reinforced polyester
- Use: the technical sheet marks the table as not suitable for outdoor use; satin-matt is not recommended for high-traffic areas
Story
What the maker says
In Established & Sons' words the three legs seem to be in motion and show up as gradients on the tabletop. The high-gloss paint goes on in eight coats and is polished by hand; the company says the surface can reflect light "in flowing pools and waves". It calls the design challenging and daring, the work of one of the greatest talents the contemporary design industry has known.
Shown at Rosewood London
