Description

Overview

Alexander (Rodolfo Dordoni, Minotti 2018 Collection) is a modular system whose elements are either squared or curved and can share one composition. Minotti calls the underlying ideas rationalist and contemporary. Layouts run from L-shaped arrangements to linear rows that bend into a soft profile with the curved Alexander "Drop" pieces, namely the chaise-longue and the rounded corner modules. Backs and armrests come high, low or mixed (the "High", "Low" and "Mix" versions).

Construction

  • Structure: solid wood suspended on high-rubber-content elastic webbing; the seat structure and the back/armrest elements are covered in variable-density, high-resilience polyurethane foam
  • Cushions: goose down filling in channels, Assopiuma Gold Label certified; a Memory Foam insert sits in the backrest cushions, a Memory Foam-wrapped polyurethane core in the seat cushions
  • Base: weight-bearing extruded aluminium bars in a polished, anti-fingerprint Bronze varnish with an impact-resistant top coat, on nylon glides
  • Covers: seat and back cushion covers come off entirely, in fabric and in leather, and the structure covers are detachable as well

Specifications

  • Sofa Low cm 229: W 229 x D 105 x H 83 cm, armrest/backrest 64 cm (Low) or 79 cm (High)
  • Linear sofas in 229, 254, 274 and 304 cm, plus single-armrest, central, open-end, couch, chaise-longue, ottoman and "Drop" elements

Story

Two kinds of shape in one plan

The page for Alexander presents it as a system of different forms that fit together: straight-edged modules and rounded ones can appear in the same composition, producing zones with a cosy, enclosing atmosphere. The "Drop" elements are what let a straight run turn into a flowing line.

Heights that shape the room

Minotti describes the taller back- and armrest pieces as alcoves, small private corners where a person can curl up with a book or the television. The lower pieces are meant to leave the view over the room unobstructed. Seams at the sofa corner, on the high back/armrest and along the middle of the back cushions are the tailored touches the page highlights, while the Bronze aluminium bars keep the volumes off the floor.
