Aldgate

Overview

Aldgate is a bed by Rodolfo Dordoni, dated 2022 on Molteni&C's datasheet. The page says it is conceived as a self-contained island of rest that blends contemporary sophistication with a subtle, welcoming presence. Its central element has softly rounded edges and is upholstered in textile or leather, and a frame encircles the bed. The datasheet ends the concept with a bench designed for the bed's foot.

Construction

The headboard is solid spruce (Picea abies) and medium density fibreboard panels with high-bearing-capacity polyurethane foam, covered in bonded velveteen, cotton and polyester fibre. The bed surround is a medium density fibreboard frame padded with polyurethane foam, with painted extruded aluminium profiles along the lower perimeter. The feet are steel with non-slip plastic floor slides, and a plastic spacer adjusts the height of the mattress base.

An island devoted to rest

The datasheet says Molteni&C broadened its range of beds with this proposal from Rodolfo Dordoni, a bed conceived as an island devoted to rest and relaxation. It is described as an isolated element, totally autonomous and self-sufficient, able to fit in with all kinds of bedroom furniture, with carefully designed details and soft, delicate, snug lines.

A backrest that recalls a road

The sheet says the rectangular backrest recalls a monumental access road to the city. It is rounded too, and carries two comfortable cushions to lean back on. The page adds that the rounded backrest and the two plush cushions make the bed welcoming for reading or lounging.
