Biography
Background
Kazuhiko Tomita describes himself as a nomad wandering between the East and the West. He opened his own studio in Milan, called "2.5-dimensional design".
Signature Style
For Tomita, simplicity is an important factor, though not Bauhaus-style minimalism. Reduction to what is important is, for him, a feature of Japanese Shintoism, a belief that even inanimate objects have spiritual energy.
Notable Works
- Ukiyo low table for Moroso, 2006
Legacy
In Milan he worked with Alessandro Mendini, Ettore Sottsass and Vico Magistretti. Products he designed have entered the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
