Tim Rundle

Background

Tim Rundle Studio is an industrial design practice formed in London in 2015. It works with an international client roster from its base in Auckland, New Zealand, across furniture, lighting, homeware, technology and transport. Rundle studied at the School of Architecture and Design at Victoria University of Wellington, worked for the consultancy Formworks Design in Auckland, then moved to London in 2008.

Signature Style

The studio's work is driven by context and concerns products and systems at the intersection between architecture and its inhabitants. It combines a preoccupation with simplicity, improvement and the pragmatic application of creativity with a rigorous knowledge of materials and manufacturing, so that results are useful, engaging and relevant. Technical ideas are turned into simplified, useful forms.

Notable Works

Clients include Resident (Radio Chair, Bloom lighting), NINE (Disc Light), ReFramed (RF-100 Bed System), Morgan (Rakino and Bilbao), SP01 (Michelle, Caristo, Mohana), Joseph Joseph (Sipp, Podium) and Craster (Line table). Work for Audo includes the TR Bulb and its fittings.

Legacy

Beyond the studio, Rundle teaches: a Platform Tutor at the Royal College of Art, 2015-2019, Visiting Lecturer at Central Saint Martins and External Examiner at Brighton University.
