Biography
Background
Pietro Arosio was born in Lissone, near Milan, in 1946. He trained at the research centre of a company specialising in the production of metal furniture for communal spaces, and the design philosophy that has guided his career grew out of that experience.
Signature Style
His design stands out for a careful balance between functionality and emotion. New materials and technologies are explored with close attention to detail, in a search that goes beyond form toward products that are aesthetic as well as functional.
Notable Works
Sliding, the sofa bed produced by Tacchini, carries his name. He has collaborated with artists such as Ugo Nespolo and Joe Tilson.
Legacy
His career as an industrial designer began in 1972 and was already recognised in 1983 with the Casaviva d'Oro award. Some of his works are part of the collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and of the Design Museum Die Neue Sammlung in Munich.
