Biography
Background
Frederik Kurzweg trained as a cabinet maker at a traditional company near Münster, Germany, where his hand-crafted journeyman's piece attracted attention and won several design awards. He went on to study industrial design at the University of Applied Sciences in Magdeburg and added a Master of Arts in product design at the University of Fine Arts of Hamburg.
Signature Style
His studio works on furniture and lighting. The projects on his site follow clear graphic ideas: two steel tubes joined at a tangential point, bent aluminium sheets laid concentrically, or a single block of marble with a concentric slot for the cord.
Notable Works
The Superpose pendant and table lamps (2016) for Normann Copenhagen, the Tangent table lamp (2017) for WOUD, the Gap wall and table lamps (2015, 2016), the Kinzo side table (2015) and the Bender chair prototype (2010/11).
Legacy
His master thesis, the Bender chair, explored bending metal and processing glass- and carbon-fibre-reinforced resins. His lamps for Normann Copenhagen and WOUD followed.
