Description

Overview

Superpose Lamp is a sculptural statement pendant lamp by Frederik Kurzweg for Normann Copenhagen. It shines a soft light outwards and a direct light downwards, and its perforated pattern casts lively shadows on the surroundings. The lamp weighs 3 kg.

Construction

Three bent and rounded steel sheets with a white powder coating make up the lamp, and every sheet is perforated. They are nested around one center and offset against each other by 180 degrees. Delivery includes a metal canopy and a cord of white textile, 4 m long; the light source is not part of it.

Specifications

W30 x D30 x H53 cm (Superpose Lamp Ø 30 cm EU White, 502030). E27 socket, 40 W at most; it can be dimmed when paired with a dimmable LED source.

Story

Layers of perforated steel

Frederik Kurzweg designed Superpose for Normann Copenhagen in 2020 as a statement lamp with a sculptural presence. Three bent and rounded steel sheets, each perforated, sit one around the other with a shared center, turned against each other by exactly 180 degrees.

Changing patterns

Where the geometrical shapes overlap, the lamp looks different from each position of the viewer. The perforations make the surfaces seem semitransparent, the bent layers become smaller towards the center, and the sheets lying over one another form shifting moiré patterns.
