Biography
Background
The Danish duo Fabricius & Kastholm consisted of Preben Fabricius (1931–1984) and Jørgen Kastholm (1931–2007). Carl Hansen & Søn says Fabricius qualified as a cabinetmaker under the master joiner Niels Vodder, while Kastholm trained as a smith in his father's company. They met at the Danish School of Interior Design in the 1950s and founded a studio in their own name in 1961.
Signature Style
The brand describes a jointly developed, functional and minimalist style that merged cabinetry and metalwork, with wood in the early years and later steel and leather. They exchanged drawings across the table until nobody could say who had drawn what, and they named Hans J. Wegner, Arne Jacobsen, Charles and Ray Eames and Mies van der Rohe as inspirations.
