Biography
Background
Anne-Mette Bartholin Jensen and Morten Ernst are Danish furniture architects who work together as Ernst & Jensen from a studio in Copenhagen. Their collaboration goes back to the School of Architecture, where as students they won Erik Jørgensen's talent competition with the Waves lounge furniture, and they graduated in 1998 from the Royal Danish Academy in Copenhagen.
Signature Style
Their work is known for balanced symmetrical forms, graphic yet organic shapes and unconventional concepts with a playful side. They design from "the furniture in a given space" as well as "the space within the furniture", beginning with a sketch, a paper model or a material study.
Notable Works
- Insula tables for Fredericia (designed 2009)
- Cho lamp series for Motarasu (2024)
- Waves, In Duplo (a series of sofas, high and low), oneforfour, Ginko, Insula Konference, Tact, Piccolo Wood, Insula Forum
Legacy
They are counted among the exponents of contemporary Danish design, recognised internationally for an inventive angle on design.
