Benjamin Hubert

Background

Benjamin Hubert was born in the UK in 1984 and studied Industrial Design and Technology at Loughborough University, graduating in 2006. He is a British design entrepreneur, the founder and Creative Director of LAYER, a London studio he established in 2015 and leads with a team of 30 creatives.

Signature Style

LAYER works across strategy, industrial design, engineering, branding and digital design from an East London studio with its own workshop of 3D printers, laser cutters and industrial sewing machines. Benjamin Hubert Ltd specialises in industrial design across furniture, lighting, product and installations, with projects that range from mass produced consumer products to limited editions and one-offs.

Notable Works

For Moroso he designed the Tape modular sofa in 2018. LAYER's projects include Velo, the first task chair for Andreu World, followed by Hula, Sero and the Triada Lift tables for the same brand, Balance for Bang & Olufsen, the ONE tripod system for Manfrotto and Collect, a rainwater harvesting system for MDF Italia and Kvadrat.

Legacy

In 2025 LAYER marked ten years with the 101010 exhibition at 10 Corso Como during Milan Design Week, which drew 50,000 visitors. The studio reports more than 150 collaborations and more than 200 awards, and Benjamin Hubert has been named a judge for the Dezeen Awards, the Fast Company Awards and the Mix Awards.
