Biography

Background

Alvino Bagni (1919-2009) took to ceramics at a young age. After the war, Arnaldo Pugi helped him open his first workshop, where his wife Gina worked beside him.

Signature Style

Bagni turned the Tuscan craft tradition into a modern, recognisable language that could talk to international design. His pieces blend material, form and aesthetics, guided by modesty, determination and a constant tension between craftsmanship and modernity.

Notable Works

Between the 1950s and 1980s the output of Ceramiche Bagni was celebrated for its artistic quality and innovative techniques. He collaborated with companies such as Raymor and Rosenthal. For Tacchini, his lamp Miss Pack, shaped after motorcycle helmets, is made with time-honoured artisanal techniques, alongside Pi-Dou.

Legacy

Ceramiche Bagni became a reference point for Italian ceramics worldwide. After the factory closed in 1990 he founded Nuove Forme, from which he retired a few years later, leaving a long legacy of craftsmanship.
