Phantom

Origin

Simon Legald designed Phantom in 2018 as a family of voluminous lamps for Normann Copenhagen, all made from a special semi-transparent resin. The outlines of archetypal chandeliers supplied the starting point for the dramatic silhouettes, and the ivory veil of resin turns them into soft, iconic shapes. The series began with pendants in three sizes. In June 2025 Normann Copenhagen added a floor lamp and a table lamp in the same resin over a steel frame, so the collection now covers the ceiling, the floor and the table.

Design Language

The shades are made by spraying thin threads of flame retardant resin onto a voluminous steel frame. Many layers of threads build up the whole lampshade and give it a textured finish. Wrapped tightly, each outline stands out as a mysterious echo of the original shape. The lamps give an indirect, diffuse light that is warm and atmospheric. For the two newer lamps, the outlines of chandeliers and columns are the reference, and the layered construction gives them a dramatic yet ethereal presence. White is the only colour in the range.

Light and Construction

Each pendant arrives assembled, with a click cover closing its bottom opening. Its cord is white textile and measures 4 m, and a white canopy is included. The EU versions take an E27 socket with a maximum load of 40 W and can be dimmed with a dimmable light source. The table lamp and the floor lamp have integrated LED light. The table lamp has a white textile cord of 2 m and a cord dimmer switch for on and off. The floor lamp has a white textile cord of 3 m and a foot dimmer switch: a single press turns it on or off and a long press gives stepless dimming. An LED pipe runs from top to bottom of the floor lamp for an even, ambient glow.
