Collection Story
Origin
Libri is a ladder-like bookcase system designed by Michaël Bihain for Swedese. Swedese lists the 5- and 4-shelf units under the year 2008; the 3- and 2-shelf units carry 2016. Bihain's own site records that Libri won the Prize for Best New Product at the Stockholm Furniture Fair in 2008 and the EDIDA Elle Deco International Design Award in 2008, was nominated for the 2008 Swedish Design Award, and entered the collection of the National Museum of Art of Stockholm in 2009.
Design Language
Swedese calls the Libri bookcase a work of art in itself that can be furnished, built and changed to suit your needs, so that the owner becomes part of the design process. It works as a sculpture against the wall or free-standing in a room; through repetition it fills a whole wall, and connected together it can act as a room divider. Bihain describes this idea as handing over the relay baton to the owner.
