Origin
Layout is a seating collection by Julien Renault for HAY. The family block on the Layout Armchair 211 and Layout Chair 111 pages has two groups, the Layout Armchair Collection and the Layout Chair Collection, each with a "Discover" link. A HAY news item titled "Layout Chair Collection by Julien Renault" announces a new side chair that extends the collection with a more compact, armrest-free expression. According to the item it follows the adaptable design principles of the series, can be taken fully apart, is made from at least 96% post-consumer recycled plastic and is offered in a range of colours, materials and leg options. It adds that upholstered versions meet EU Ecolabel standards when specified with approved textiles.
Design Language
The product pages describe a flexible, innovative design shaped by a commitment to comfort, functionality and circularity. Its defining feature is the opening in the backrest, which HAY says adds comfort and gives the chair a look of lightness and transparency. Slim tubular legs are said to join stability with an elegant look. Every chair component can be disassembled, which HAY ties to a longer lifespan and to refurbishment.
