Collection Story

Origin

HAY's J-Series page is titled "classic Danish designs reproduced by HAY". It says that the originals were produced in the 1960s by FDB and that the series offers timeless wooden chairs, with designs by Børge Mogensen, Folke Pålsson and others. FDB, Fællesforeningen for Danmarks Brugsforeninger, is the Danish Consumers Cooperative Society, better known as Coop. According to the product pages its furniture department was founded in 1933, Mogensen became design director there in 1942, and his approach aimed at simple, elegant and practical design for mass consumption. The J41 page adds that the J41 and the J42 were part of the J-Series that Mogensen designed during his time at FDB.

Design Language

On the chair pages HAY calls its versions reproductions or a relaunch of the originals. The pages name solid oak or beech as the woods, in oiled, natural or coloured finishes.
