Ilary

Origin

Jean-Marie Massaud designed Ilary for Poltrona Frau as a range of side tables, conceived as three collections in one. The range brings together different heights, shapes and constructions, along with a language of finishes and materials that produces effects and combinations which differ each time yet stay coherent.

Design Language

Every table in Ilary has a circular top, and the heights run from 35 to 57 cm across the items of the range. Three families of construction share that outline. The lowest tables carry marble tops on solid ash bases that end in felt caps. The small tables have bases of burnished satin steel or ruthenium with plastic caps, and their tops are Saddle Extra leather over an upholstered steel structure or moka-stained ash (61) on a frame of solid ash with MDF veneer; a wooden top raises the table by around 2 cm. The third family has a column and a top in semi-brilliant marble, joined by an invisible steel frame.

The marble comes in brilliant and semi-brilliant surfaces. Brilliant tops are coated in clear polyester, for extra surface strength and resistance to liquids, whereas Calacatta and Arabescato Venato in the semi-brilliant finish only get a water-repellent protective solution, for a more natural look. A technical mesh under the larger marble tops resists bending, breakage and impact, with a birch plywood lower shelf in textured black paint for further stability.
