Collection Story

Origin

The ID Chair Concept is Antonio Citterio's modular office-chair system for Vitra, introduced in 2010 and dated 2010/2026 on Vitra's family page. Citterio, who has worked with Vitra since 1988, summed up the idea as a concept for many chairs rather than one chair. Vitra's magazine calls it its best-selling office chair.

Design Language

The backrest defines the model, while mechanism, armrests, seat and base are shared. Two mechanisms are offered: the patented FlowMotion, and AutoMotion, which adapts to the sitter's weight automatically. Seat cushions in V-Foam, a recyclable polyurethane foam developed with BASF, make some configurations 100% recyclable. An ETH Zurich study found that the chair's range of movement is fully used.
