Collection Story
Origin
Flos calls Glo-Ball a series by Jasper Morrison, first designed in 1998. Morrison's own site dates the Pendant and Standing versions to 1998 and the Basic to 1999, and calls the series an extensive family of lights with hand-blown opal glass diffusers.
Family
Flos USA lists Glo-Ball Basic, Table, Floor, Wall, Ceiling/Wall and Suspension models. Its pages state that the diffuser is externally acid-etched, hand-blown, flashed opaline glass, and that MoMA keeps Glo-Ball in its permanent collection.
Morrison's account
In Everything but the Walls (2006) Morrison writes that he had been trying to design a light for Flos for almost five years before he and Piero Gandini hit on the idea of Glo-ball, and that they developed a range of blown glass globes for almost every imaginable situation.
