Collection Story
Fumoir by Renzo Frau
Poltrona Frau presents Fumoir as a historic seating family by Renzo Frau. It revisits the living-room set introduced in the company's 1920s catalogue as models 118 and 518. Frau drew inspiration from the low-backed eighteenth-century tub armchair, whose upright posture suited tables and waiting areas.
Sofa and armchair
The family comprises a sofa and armchair. Both omit a separate back cushion and use reduced proportions intended to remain agile and versatile. Brass front wheels, diamond stitching on the back, leather-covered buttons and a line of leather-covered pins across the back and sides establish their shared details.
Traditional upholstery
The official specification names a seasoned-beech supporting structure, hand-tied steel biconical springs on jute belts and rubberised horsehair padding. Upholstery is offered in Pelle Frau leather or fabric. These construction details connect the current family with Poltrona Frau's historic upholstery practice without converting its catalogue or production dates into a design year.
