Folded

Origin

Folded is a Muuto family by Johan Van Hengel built on one visual idea: the look of folded paper translated into metal. The Folded family groups three pieces under that name: the Folded Shelves, the Folded Platform Shelf and the Folded Trolley.

Design Language

The layers in the Folded Shelves shift as objects are placed on them, and the shelves can look sculptural even when bare. Production was expected to be difficult from the first sketch. The usual bending rules for metal would have ruled the design out, so the task was to invent a form with no precedent, whose folded elements give it a playful, experimental touch.

Key Pieces

• Folded Shelves, wall shelves in several sizes and colours, mounted with hooks and bolts
• Folded Platform Shelf, a wall shelf with a wide platform surface
• Folded Trolley, a steel trolley with a display pocket at the back, glides and castors
