Collection Story

Origin

Knoll's collection page says that with her architect's eye and keen sense of proportion Florence Knoll designed furniture and interiors that made daily life a well-designed pleasure. She designed the pieces as part of her work in the Knoll Planning Unit, and she called them the "meat and potatoes" among the standout pieces of Bertoia, Mies and Saarinen.

Design Language

Knoll's brochure describes her work as reserved and cool, rich and energetic, and as reflecting the objective perfectionism of the early 1960s. Her bases are chrome or satin chrome, carrying glass, veneer, marble, laminate or lacquer.
