Collection Story
Origin
Croissant is the GUBI collection of the Croissant Lounge Chair and the Croissant Sofa by Illum Wikkelsø. GUBI's pages present the Croissant as the designer's irreverent play on the more traditional Chesterfield sofa, with the French pastry as his inspirational reference. They date its first release to 1962, say that it captured the zeitgeist of an optimistic decade and has been a treasured collector's piece since, and add that GUBI has subtly refined the original to suit today's body shapes.
Design Language
GUBI calls the reimagined Croissant playful, voluptuous and sublimely crafted. It is available in leather or in a range of upholstered fabrics, and the complex curves of its iconic form are achieved through meticulous hand-stitching. They sit on a base frame and legs of oiled walnut or oak.
