Collection Story

Origin

Eric Jourdan designed the Aston seating family for Ligne Roset. The manufacturer's text explicitly connects Aston to automotive design of the 1960s and 1970s, an era in which taut lines were combined with softer forms. Those stylistic codes guide the model toward a bolder, unconventional and almost futuristic aesthetic.

Shared Construction

Across the family, plywood forms the armrest and back structures. ABS sheet creates the radiused sections beneath a polyether foam facing, and MDF forms the seat. Back flexibility comes from elastic webbing. Multiple high-resilience Bultex specifications and an ultra-soft polyurethane grade build the seat and back cushions, and the lumbar support contains goose and duck feathers. The published foam values include 38 kg/m³ at 3.6 kPa, 36 kg/m³ at 2.8 kPa, another 38 kg/m³ at 2.8 kPa, and ultra-soft foam at 45 kg/m³ and 1.8 kPa.

Polyester quilting is specified at 200 g/m² for the armrest structure cover and 300 g/m² for the seat and back cushion covers. Double-needle stitching produces the quilting and also follows the cushion edges. Covers may be removed by a professional; when upholstered in leather, the structure and armrest coverings are fixed.

Base Options

Aston includes fixed and swivelling seating versions. The swivel base is made from 8 mm steel finished in black epoxy lacquer. A satin-black-lacquered MDF base can raise the fixed seating by 40 mm. The chair and sofa share this optional high-base specification.

Family Specification

Ligne Roset links the Aston armchair and settee under one collection name. Both versions follow the same design premise, structural materials, cushion specification, double-needle stitching and professional cover-removal conditions. The collection's upholstery programme encompasses fabrics, hides, chenilles, velvets, wools and microfibres, with material and colour choices organised within those categories. These choices sit alongside the fixed or swivelling base alternatives documented for the family.
