Description

Overview

Eric Jourdan's Aston Armchair translates taut and soft forms associated with 1960s and 1970s automotive design into an upholstered armchair. The fixed version measures 970 × 890 × 810 mm (W × D × H); a swivelling version is 10 mm deeper.

Construction

Plywood arm and back structures use ABS-sheet radii faced with polyether foam, while the seat uses MDF. Elastic webbing softens the back. Seat and back cushions combine several high-resilience Bultex and ultra-soft polyurethane foams, with a goose-and-duck-feather lumbar support.

Base and covers

An 8 mm-thick steel plate, epoxy-lacquered black, supports the swivel version. The fixed chair can take a 40 mm higher satin-black MDF base. Textile coverings are professionally removable; hide upholstery stays fixed on the arms and structure.

Story

Automotive references

Ligne Roset relates Aston to vehicles styled during the 1960s and 1970s, where taut lines met softer shapes. Eric Jourdan uses that contrast to move the chair away from conventional domestic outlines toward a more unconventional profile.

Fixed and moving versions

The same upholstered body is offered on a fixed base or an 8 mm steel swivel plate. Vertical quilting across the seat and back cushions and double-needle stitching form the published cushion quilting and edge finish.
