Collection Story
Origin
Niels Vitsœ and Otto Zapf set up the company in 1959 to put Dieter Rams's furniture into production. The shelving followed in 1960, when Rams was 28, and has been made continuously since. Vitsœ also holds the sole licence worldwide for Rams's furniture designs.
Design Language
The 606 is a system rather than a single piece. Anodised aluminium E-Tracks carry slender, powder-coated steel shelves, cabinets, desks and tables that hang on a pin. Walls, posts and free-standing frames all take the same tracks, and the colours stay limited to off-white, black, silver and beech so that later additions still match.
Key Pieces
- E-Track structures: on the wall, on X-Posts in front of it, wedged from floor to ceiling, or standing free on H-Posts
- Metal shelves in 16, 22, 30 and 36 cm depths, 18° and 79° sloping shelves, and a shelf with hanging rail
- Cabinets, 36 cm deep, with one to three drawers, up-and-over or fold-down doors
- Integrated tables (80, 120 and 160 cm deep) and a desk shelf
