Description

Overview

The Vivienne seating system by the Italian-Danish duo GamFratesi for Minotti is inspired by the semicircular curved backrest of the Vivienne armchair. The embrace of the backrest wraps around the seat and also acts as an armrest. In addition to sofas, end pieces and chaise lounges, the system includes elements with tops. The technical sheet draws a 276 cm sofa 107 cm deep and 80 cm high.

Construction

The frame is metal, covered with flame-resistant polyurethane foam and an outer layer of breathable fibre fused to white hypoallergenic cotton. The upholstered base is shaped to a fine contour and stands on aluminium bars set back from the edge; it covers part of the cushion thickness, so the seat looks thinner. Backrest cushions are goose down. Bases are extruded brushed aluminium or Black Coffee varnish.

Specifications

Sofa 276: 276 cm wide, 107 cm deep, 80 cm high (technical sheet).

Story

From an armchair to a system

The page says the system takes its cue from the semicircular curved backrest of the Vivienne armchair. Quoted on the page, the designers call it a piece that plays with the harmony of shapes: soft, generous curves typical of the Vivienne Large armchair that evolve into a sofa system with new proportions, balancing sinuosity and geometric rigour.

A thinner-looking seat

The page describes the base as an upholstered form with a delicate contour, carried on aluminium bars that sit back from the edge. It takes in and partly hides the thickness of the cushions, so the seat appears thinner and the upholstery looks more delicate.

Combinations

Minotti presents the system as one of great compositional versatility. Elements with tops allow original combinations and, the page says, a cohesive style for spaces of different sizes.
