Story
An archetypal chair
HAY says the chair's name and aesthetics derive from the perception of an archetypal chair, and that its distinctively shaped back gives it a uniform sculptural expression. Jonas Trampedach, who worked with HAY before, says the chair has been years in the making.
Aluminium for HAY
In HAY's news article the chair is the company's first made of aluminium. Co-founder Rolf Hay says aluminium does not rust, which suits outdoor spaces, and that lightness is essential for furniture that is moved around outdoors.
