Description

Overview

Ross Lovegrove designed the Sprite Stacking Chair for Knoll in 2004. The stored version is the 27A armchair, built around a moulded plywood shell on a polished chrome tubular-steel base.

Construction

The shell contains six maple layers and three adhesive layers. Four screws connect it to the base, and four rubber bumpers manage stacking. Seat pads are available in KnollTextiles and Spinneybeck leather.

Specifications

  • W 29 x D 22 x H 32 in (737 x 559 x 813 mm)
  • Seat height 17 in; arm height 25.5 in

Story

Lovegrove's plywood side-chair study

Knoll asked Ross Lovegrove for an affordable, flexible side chair. He looked to Scandinavian moulded-plywood precedents while giving Sprite separate finish choices for the shell's inner and outer surfaces.

Stackable formats

Unpadded armless chairs stack eight to ten high; a seat pad reduces that to four to six. The armchair also stacks four to six high, and Knoll lists a tablet arm, ganging device and transport dolly as options.
