Story
From a shoe stool
Artek says Aino Aalto designed Side Table 606 while the Aaltos were working on the Paimio Sanatorium, and that it was originally used as a stool for changing shoes.
Pulled tight
The three-quarter-moon base is what, in Artek's words, allows the table to be pulled tight to armchairs, sofas and beds, and the page calls the table lightweight and versatile.
