Description

Overview

Tom Dixon designed the S-Chair in 1991. Cappellini produces it with a dark metal structure; the iconic original version is upholstered with marsh straw, and it is also offered in wicker or with a fixed leather or fabric cover chosen from the collection.

Construction

The structure is powder-painted steel in dark brown, and the feet are black plastic. The cover is stained wicker, woven marsh straw, or fixed fabric or leather. The marsh straw weaving is done entirely by hand and takes more than 6 hours of craftsmanship.

Specifications

  • Dimensions: 50 x 42 x 102 cm (TD_1 / TD_1T)
  • Made in: Italy
  • Cover: marsh straw, wicker, fabric or leather

Story

An artisanal object made industrial

The S-Chair by Tom Dixon is an object with an artisanal core that has been transformed into an industrial piece without losing the essence of the original product. The chair can be found in the permanent collections of museums from the Triennale in Milan to the MoMA in New York.

Straw, wicker or fixed covers

The original version is upholstered with marsh straw woven entirely by hand. Wicker is one alternative, and fixed covers in leather or fabric are another.
