Story
Shell and frame kept apart
Thonet describes the S 840 as a high-quality visitor's and conference chair whose unique characteristic is the accentuated separation of shell and frame. The surfaces of the moulded plywood shell show formal analogies to automobile design, translated to wood.

Leather or fabric
Thonet says the character of the chair changes with the veneers and stains and with upholstery covers in leather or fabric, so that it fits into any interior design environment.
