Story
Pared back to four legs
Thonet says designer Frank Rettenbacher reduced the materials of the S 243 to maximise form and function. The result is a lightweight stacking chair on four legs, with a thicker back leg that carries the load and a slimmer front leg.

Built to stack and link
The brochure points to the space saved by stacking up to five chairs and to the stacking pad that protects the frame. It also describes a row-linking system for joining chairs in public spaces such as schools, conference rooms and event venues.
