Ribes

Overview

Ribes (2019, Antonio Citterio) is an outdoor modular seating system. B&B Italia says it focuses on versatility, customisation, colour and research into materials, with sofas, central and end elements, chaise longues and ottomans in many shapes and sizes.

Construction

• Base: a futon base with flexible glass fibre slats on an aluminium frame, in die-cast aluminium and extrusions, powder painted
• Armrests and backrests: two types, one with a polypropylene fibre interlacing and one with a roller cushion
• Cushions: seat cushions of shaped polyurethane and recycled PET polyester fibre; back and roller upholstery of recycled PET polyester fibre; covers in a water-repelling polyester fibre
• Other parts: a waterproof cover cloth (PES, PU-coated on one side), solid wood seat top section, thermoplastic ferrules

• RBR220 straight sofa: W 220 × D 106 cm; largest vertical value 86.5 cm, not labelled on the drawing

Transformation

The page says Ribes means transformation: by substituting, adding or moving the backs and armrests, a sommier can become a vis-à-vis sofa, a sofa an island, and a corner seating plan a comfortable bed. New elements can be added over time.

Between inside and outside

The page describes Ribes as suited to areas that are neither inside nor outside: verandas, shady patios, under a loggia or on a covered terrace, giving a fluid approach to the open spaces of the home.
