Description

Overview

The Precious chair is by Johannes Torpe for Moroso, from 2019. Extremely slender legs carry a seat that rests on a chrome-plated or painted steel plate, a base the design compares to a thin ring or wedding ring.

Construction

The seat and back are made of injected flexible polyurethane foam supported by an internal steel frame. The steel base is varnished or chromed in one of six base finishes and ends in polypropylene gliders.

  • Covers: not removable
  • Gliders: polypropylene

Story

Slimmed to the limit

The Precious chair is an attempt to slim down the cross-section as far as possible, so that a lightweight, elegant chair appears to defy the laws of physics. The minimalist shape is still combined with solidity, which makes it suitable for heavy-duty use such as the contract industry: crisp, clear-cut forms and strength sit side by side instead of pulling against each other.

A ring under the seat

The designer describes imagining a ring on a finger while drawing the collection, and the shiny metal plate under the seat carries that image. The legs are slender in the same spirit. The collection offers many fabrics and finishes, chosen with attention to detail.
