Description

Overview

The Planetarium is a tip-up seat that Poltrona Frau Style & Design Centre designed for the cruise ship Queen Mary 2. Poltrona Frau's page calls it an extremely comfortable seat, helped by its reclining backrest. A variant with a fixed backrest also exists, and both come in high and low versions.

Construction

The frame is mixed metal and wood. The padding is non-deforming foamed polyurethane on metal springs, and the seat is an automatic tip-up with joints in noise-damping nylon. On request the armrests can take a foldaway writing table. Leather from the Color System (Pelle Frau®), fabric or velvet can cover it, using traditional methods and invisible riveting. In rows the chairs sit on metal bases with an epoxy powder coating.

Story

A seat for a liner

The page gives one origin for the Planetarium: it was designed for the cruise ship Queen Mary 2. Its stated comfort comes in part from the reclining backrest, and the fixed-backrest variant keeps the same high and low formats.

Accessories on request

Besides the writing table that can be fitted to the armrests, the page says conference room and lounge area accessories are available on request. The page's credit line names Poltrona Frau R. & D. as the designer, while its designer panel names Poltrona Frau Style & Design Centre.
