Story

Pfister's lounge collection of 1971

Knoll's page calls Charles Pfister a celebrated interior designer whose personal design philosophy was “restrained elegance”, and says he designed this perfectly proportioned lounge collection in 1971. It quotes his conviction that “There is a movement away from throw-away society, away from disposable possessions. Instead there is a mounting interest in useful, sculptural, wonderfully constructed objects … such objects are a triumph in any setting.”

Made at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill’s interiors department

According to Knoll, Pfister created the Pfister Lounge Collection for Knoll while on the staff of SOM’s interior design department, and production began in 1971.
