Description

Overview

Ovidio (2023) is Vincent Van Duysen's bed for Molteni&C. It is designed as the centrepiece of the bedroom, a combination of sober elegance and comfort in which the leading role is played by the headboard. The headboard is expansive and comes in leather or fabric, within a discreet metal frame with rounded corners that defines the structure.

Construction

The headboard core combines solid spruce (Picea abies) with fibreboard of medium density, plus firm polyurethane foam and a cover combining bonded velveteen, cotton and polyester fibre; its profile is aluminium with leather inserts. The surround is a fibreboard frame with foam padding and the same cover, a painted aluminium profile, and anodised aluminium feet tipped with non-slip plastic.

Story

A headboard with detail

Vincent Van Duysen says on the datasheet that the new bed is characterized by "a blend of many details, a very elegant object that converses with a modern style". The sheet says no detail is left to chance, and calls the headboard a synthesis of research and refinement.

Stitching and profile

The front of the headboard, where the profile is straight, is covered in leather in the same colour as the upholstery (tone-on-tone) or in contrasting shades, for a bolder or more subdued look. The sheet says the facade is enriched by "diamond" stitching running vertically through the element, and mentions hand-stitched vertical seams in contrasting thread and a flat aluminium frame.
