Description

Overview

The Oka shelving unit is a modular shelving unit by Kazuko Okamoto for Ligne Roset. It is made of single or double niches that can be set side by side, in lacquer or veneer, so that colours, materials and module widths can be mixed within one piece.

Construction

The shelves are staggered. This lets neighbouring modules interlock and gives the ends of the piece an asymmetrical profile.

Specifications

The module is H 2,154 x P 319 mm. A composition's overall width is the sum of the modules' internal dimensions plus 167 mm for the side overhangs of the shelves.

Story

A shelving unit that breaks the usual pattern

Oka sets single and double niches next to each other, in a way that departs from the regular look of a conventional shelving unit. Each owner can combine lacquer and veneer, varied colours and different module widths to arrive at a piece of their own.

Interlocking shelves

Because the shelves are staggered, the modules fit together exactly, and the extremities of the finished piece take on an asymmetrical and highly original character. Kazuko Okamoto, who designed Oka, has worked as a freelance designer in Europe since 2008 and is based in Milan.
