Description
Overview
Octave is a modular sofa system characterised by rigorous shapes, designed by Vincent Van Duysen and produced by Molteni&C. The page describes a subtle study of proportions and a graphic interplay of geometric volumes, inspired by wide skyscraper windows with views over cosmopolitan megacities.

Construction
The page describes blade-like extruded steel legs that support a base carrying low rectangular backrests, in textile or leather, of the same thickness as the seat cushions. On the datasheet the structure uses solid fir (Picea abies), wood particle panels and elastic straps, with bonded velveteen over variable-density foam; the feet are painted steel, hot-welded, with plastic ferrules that do not slip. Optional trinket trays are covered in bonded hide leather.
Specifications
- Representative sofa DI240C (depth 95): W 240 × D 95 × H 61 cm (61, with no label)
- Other widths in depth 95: 210 and 270 cm
- Seat depth (depth 95): 80 cm without and about 60 cm with the backrest cushion; depth 105 gives 90 and about 70 cm
- Base finishes: painted zinc, painted pewter colour
Story
Inspired by skyscraper windows
The page says Octave is inspired by wide skyscraper windows that offer breathtaking views over cosmopolitan megacities while one sits comfortably on inviting sofas. It describes the result as rigorous shapes and a subtle study of proportions.
Mix and match
The datasheet describes Octave as a system of modular sofas built on mix and match elements that come together in linear or angular compositions, or with hanging trapezoidal or rectangular elements. Open elements make chaises longues or poufs, set beside the composition or used on their own, including at the centre of the room.
