Overview
Neos is Poltrona Frau's reinterpretation of the cinema seat, developed by its Style & Design Centre as a solution for the new Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury. The company describes the result as modular and suited to the curved form of a traditional horseshoe-shaped auditorium.
Construction
Steel and MDF form the frame. Laser-cut sheet-steel sides carry padded MDF armrests, while fire-resistant polyurethane foam and woven elastic belts provide cushioning and suspension. A curved veneered-beech panel finishes the back.
Specifications
The floor-fixed base is steel with black epoxy powder paint. A counterweight system returns the seat quietly. Upholstery can be selected from resistant fabrics, sustainably sourced leather or approved customer material.
Story
A theatre-specific reinterpretation
Neos began with the familiar cinema-seat typology and a defined architectural commission: seating for the new Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury. Poltrona Frau says the modular chair was shaped to coexist with the classical curved language of horseshoe auditoriums.
Developed within Poltrona Frau
The manufacturer credits its Style & Design Centre for Neos. A floor-fixed steel base supports the chair, and a curved veneered-beech panel finishes the back.
