A lightweight seat in a linear language
B&B Italia dates Metric to 2026 and credits Michael Anastassiades. The maker says it started as an exercise to design lightweight seating in a linear language, using the slimmest possible sections of solid oak, with essential cross bracing for structural strength.

SMR41_L dimensions
The SMR41_L drawing prints 41 cm, 47.5 cm and 82 cm (41 cm and 47.5 cm under the front and side views, 82 cm beside the front view; axes not labelled on the drawing), plus a 46 cm mark at the side view. The sheet also draws SMR41, SMR51B_L and SMR51B; the SMR51B versions print 51 cm, 52 cm and 82 cm.
Construction
The frame is solid wood. Ferrules are plastic. Codes ending _L use a wood panel seat, and the others are upholstered in thick leather.
Story
Horizontal and vertical lines
Horizontal and vertical lines build the outer frame. The backrest is the single curved part, and the maker says it is tilted at the angle needed for maximum comfort.
Seat options
Seats come either in wood or slightly padded and upholstered in thick leather. The sheet draws four codes, SMR41_L, SMR41, SMR51B_L and SMR51B.
