Description

Overview

Metric is Michael Anastassiades's 2026 seating design for B&B Italia. The armchair is the wider, lower member of a family developed through narrow sections and linear geometry.

Construction

The frame is solid wood. Horizontal and vertical lines provide the cross-bracing required for structural strength, while the backrest is the sole curved element. Largest SMR51B drawing values, not labelled with axes: 510 × 520 × 820 mm.

Options

Metric is offered entirely in wood or with a veneered multi-layered wood seat, synthetic padding and a thick-leather cover. Plastic ferrules finish the legs.

Story

Linear exercise

Metric began as an exercise in making lightweight seating from the slimmest possible solid-oak sections. Anastassiades reduced the structure to crossing horizontal and vertical members and reserved curvature for the tilted backrest.

The armchair

Within the family, this is the wider and lower armchair. Its rearward-sloping seat is framed between two parallel beams, extending the same measured structural language into a more generous format.
