Stock Exchange commission
Skogstad & Wærnes originally designed Merkur for the Oslo Stock Exchange. Audo launched the chair in January 2023 and describes it as a contemporary reading of the archetypal dining chair.
Solid-oak construction
The selected armless version is solid oak in a natural lacquered finish. Traditional woodworking shapes the curved backrest and the chair stacks up to four high.
Dimensions
Audo lists 780 mm height, 460 mm width and 520 mm depth, with a 460 mm seat height and 420 mm seat depth.
Story
Built for trade
Audo's official account links Merkur to the rehabilitation of Oslo's historic Stock Exchange. The name refers to the bronze Mercury figure associated with the building, and the first one hundred chairs were numbered for use on the exchange floor. Audo then introduced the design more widely in January 2023 in solid-oak and black-painted versions, with and without armrests.
